The Parenthesis is a blog written by Rebecca Thomas, a Primary School teacher, a parent and (once upon a time a solicitor) to discuss and address the seemingly recurring barriers faced by disadvantaged children in our educational system. Whilst there is a widely acknowledged problem, faced by teachers in schools, of closing the disadvantage gap, there are less practical solutions and even less accountability for the social and economic issues faced by many children, which teachers in busy classrooms with limited resources are left to solve to the best of their ability.
The Parenthesis aims to take a look at the issues which we are facing and to create awareness of ways in which we can address the disadvantage gap, ensuring that all children, regardless of their social or economic background can have high aspirations and achieve their ambitions with equal confidence of success.
